[ This isn't the first time she's been struck by just how many words people like to use to get to whatever point they're working on making, but his mention of the Mouse House and Ma'am Mariol holds her attention enough not to mention it. Instead, Fei nods along, her eyes going wide as she listens to The Doctor make many of the same points she's made to Emilia or her husband while worrying over the state of the children dwelling down below. ]
I am glad you came to me. Xie Yun and I bring them food from up here often– [ Though she's careful not to mention that the food is liberated from the wealthy larders of Eidris before being cooked by Xie Yun and carried below by Fei. ]
Once, I asked Ma'am Mariol if she would consider moving the children somewhere, and she said she wished they could grow up in the sunlight, since then I have been trying to find a way for them. I do not wish to leave this place with the children in such a bad way. To grow up without sunlight is a shame.
[ Perhaps its best she didn't say anything about the way The Doctor took his time getting to his point, as Fei, carried off by her sense of justice and the way the thought of growing up in the dark made her feel she too can't help but go on longer than she usually might. ]
I spoke to the Lady Emilia about this, but she made a point in that, is up here any safer for them? Even if we could find them a house and buy it for them, they would have light, but they would also inherit the dangers of the cities above them.
[ He understands getting carried away, of course, as evidenced by his rambling journey to the actual point. Luckily, he didn't get as distracted or carried away as he normally does. ]
You've done so much already, so much that's been sorely needed. Like you, though, I don't wish to think about leaving these children behind in these conditions.
[ He's quiet, thoughtful for a moment. This may not be the solution, but perhaps between them, talking it out, they can come up with at least a path closer to it. ]
Between us and with Emilia's position, there's a way - we can't give them what I think we all feel they deserve. The risk is too great. But if we can come up with a permanent solution to at least better their conditions down below, it's something. It's hope. Perhaps we can play the two sides against each other. A few carefully worded threats might go a long way, too.
[ Or, perhaps have the opposite effect. They have to be careful with their assigned roles, too, of course. The Doctor may shy away from hurting people physically, but over his long life, he's grown adept at the art of manipulation. ]
[ i'm so sorry this took so long to reply to, rl was super busy. please feel free to disregard if i let this sit too long. ]
Emilia is very wise and connected to the underworld in this place. People with very deep pockets.
[ Her arms cross tighter across her chest as she frowns, considering what he's suggested. ]
We must find a way to access these people. Does the role you've been given allow for it? I can make threats, but I cannot play people, as you say. You will have to be the one with guile.
I've been given the role of keeping the peace, so to speak, between the Mouse House and Eidris. I don't have much patience for the rich and powerful, admittedly. But I've made a connection with another member of our group, Wrathion, who believes he can sway opinions in Minaras. Turn the rich and powerful against each other, play them at their own game. Does your role allow you any access to people who might know people and so on? The more gossip we can spread, the better, I think.
The job they have given me allows me to be around the dragon riders, some of whom are powerful people in Eidris. Perhaps if they overheard an interesting conversation they would speak among themselves where others would hear.
[ At least, that's how getting rumors started worked in Jianghu ]
Now, we're onto something! Excellent. [ He tends to get enthusiastic over even the simplest things. Perhaps he's being overly hopeful, but he'd rather that than the alternative. ]
Between the four of us, your...Xie Yun, the rest of our friends, we'll be able to help these people, I'm sure of it.
